West Lothian celebrate chart topping DJ duo and school band for musical success

A chart-topping DJ duo and a school pipe band are both to receive letters of congratulation from West Lothian Council for their recent success.

Labour councillor Kirsteen Sullivan’s motion of congratulation to Whitburn’s LF System and the West Lothian Schools Pipe Band was seconded by SNP Councillor Pauline Clark.

West Lothian dance duo LF System recently topped the charts for 8 weeks.

Councillor Sullivan’s Motion to a meeting of the full council noted the “county’s growing reputation as a hotbed of musical talent.”

It added: “Council recognises the remarkable achievement of local DJs Conor Larkman and Sean Finnigan of LF System with their single ‘Afraid to Feel’ becoming the longest running dance track at number one in a decade, knocking Kate Bush off the top spot and fending off Beyonce.”

Cllr Sullivan told the meeting: “Music is a frequent flyer at council meetings, such is the success we have had across the musical spectrum. I have brought motions here to celebrate Whitburn Band, Lewis Capaldi and we also have Susan Boyle and the Snuts.

"I’d like to recognise two local DJs for the longest running number one of a dance track in a decade.”

The motion continued: “Furthermore, Council acknowledges the tremendous success of the West Lothian Schools Pipe Band in securing second place in the Novice Junior A grade at the recent World Championships in Glasgow, rounding off a fantastic season.“

The motion concluded: “Council instructs the Chief Executive to write to LF System and the West Lothian Schools Pipe Band to congratulate them on their recent achievements and wish them continued success.”

Councillor Clark told the meeting that there were three pipers in her family of four, and paid tribute to the “absolutely tremendous success” of the band in achieving second place after close to 18 months where they had been unable to practice together because of Covid lockdown.

“They have taken practice by the horns, and it is just a fantastic achievement. Coming second is great. They have been promoted for next year and I know they will want to get to the number one spot for next year. Each and every one of those young pipers and drummers are more than capable,” she added.
