Warriors Gym in Armadale are celebrating after Kat Strathearn clinched the Game Scottish Ladies Cruiserweight title after sealing a second round stoppage.
The 41-year-old said she was ‘delighted’ to have clinched the belt and is already gearing up for a rematch.
Speaking to the Courier, she said: “I’m delighted with how the fight went and being able to pick up the win. It was stopped in the second round when my opponent popped her knee out but I was winning up until that point and confident I’d have keep that up if the fight had been able to continue.
“I think there’s going to be a rematch and I’m looking forward to that challenge.”
She added: “We’ve got a bout in May just to keep me active and keep me going and looking to keep up that winning streak.”
Strathearn has been part of the Warriors crew for five years and heaped praise on owner David Orr and coaches Sonia Carruthers and Andy Wilson for getting her in top shape for the bout - and creating a positive atmosphere in the gym.
She said: “I’ve been with Warriors for five years and it’s been brilliant. There’s a huge family atmosphere at the club and they put a lot of work into the kids’ side of things which is great to see.
“We only got five weeks’ notice for the bout so it was a case of strict diet, needing to lose a bit of weight and keep up a pretty tough fitness regime but David, Sonia and Andy were brilliant.
“We did morning classes and stuff at night as well to make sure I was ready. She was a southpaw, too, which made things a bit different but again that was all covered and worked on in the gym by the team.
“I felt really confident and happy stepping into the ring and I’m delighted I was able to get the win. Hopefully I can keep moving forward and keep the belt when we’re back in the ring.”
