While last week’s win over Fulham went some way to doing that, they are not yet out of the woods and the Scot appeared to admit as much with his team selection for Thursday’s Europa Conference League quarter-final draw at Gent.
Said Benrahma, Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta all started on the bench in Belgium but return today.
It’s three changes from the win at Fulham, with Thilo Kehrer, Paqueta and Benrahma replacing Angelo Ogbonna, Danny Ings and Pablo Fornals.
The headline absentee is Gianluca Scamacca, who is set for knee surgery, while worryingly neither Ogbonna nor Nayef Aguerd are involved as Kehrer lines up alongside Kurt Zouma at centre-back.
Much of the attention during Sunday’s game will be on Declan Rice. The England international is the Gunners’ leading transfer target this summer and is widely expected to leave.
West Ham XI: Fabianski, Coufal, Zouma, Kehrer, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Benrahma, Antonio
Subs: Johnson, Fornals, Lanzini, Downes, Areola, Cornet, Ings, Emerson Palmieri, Anang
