Jarrod Bowen gave West Ham a crucial win over Watford on a night that will likely be overshadowed by David Moyes’ decision to start Kurt Zouma.
Despite investigations being launched into the French defender after a video on social media appeared to show him acting violently towards his pet cat, the French defender was selected from the off and roundly booed by the away support.
That, really, was the major story of the evening even when Bowen’s deflected strike had faded into memory. West Ham are into the top four once more but, in the grand scheme of things, is that really of the utmost importance?
For Watford, there were certainly signs of Roy Hodgson continuing to bring more in the way of solidity to his new team. Still, when operating in such a low block, the relatively freak incident of a deflection can scupper all sorts of plans.
