West Ham United have opted to recall midfielder Dan Chesters following his loan spell at League Two side Colchester United.
Chesters, who was on his first spell away from the Hammers on loan, made 18 appearances for the U’s, making eight starts and providing two assists in all competitions.
However, following the midfielder’s omission from Colchester’s squad for their League Two win over Swindon Town on New Year’s Day, Colchester head coach Matt Bloomfield confirmed that Chesters has been recalled by the Hammers.

"Dan has been recalled by West Ham,” Bloomfield told the Daily Gazette Standard .
"His loan has come to an end and we thank him for his endeavours since he's been here. Dan has done well since he's been here.
"We've tried to give him as many opportunities as we can whilst he's been here. He's not our player but we've tried to look after him as one of our own.
"But he goes back to West Ham with our best wishes and we'll keep an eye on his future career."
Chesters becomes the second player in quick succession to be recalled by the Hammers from their loan spell at a League Two side. Thierry Nevers recently returned from Welsh side Newport County after spending the first half of the season there on loan.
Nevers made 17 appearances in all competitions for the League Two side, scoring once and providing two assists in England’s fourth tier. However, he made just seven starts for Newport, two of which were in the Papa John’s Trophy.
