West Ham transfer news and rumours: Broja battle emerges; Brereton Diaz insight; Caleta-Car, Phillips latest

West Ham are one of many Premier League teams thinking of making a big entry into the transfer market late in the day.

David Moyes has been clear for weeks that a new defender to cover his team’s injury problems at the back is a top priority.

Furthermore, a new striker could arrive to help Michail Antonio out in attack - while there are continual rumours over a potential move away for the Hammers’ biggest stars.

Here, we detail the latest transfer developments at London Stadium...

In their bid to improve their attacking options, West Ham are reportedly scouting Southampton striker Armando Broja.

Football Insider detail a plot from the Hammers to bring in the Chelsea man on a permanent deal amid questions over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge. Saints are also said to be keen on the Albanian.

Over at website Hammers News, it is claimed that West Ham can be very confident of sealing the deal.

The often-linked defender has once again popped up in gossip columns this month.

According to Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser, Caleta-Car remains on the Hammers’ radar but a move this month is considered very unlikely.

Ben Brereton Diaz

Newcastle are rumoured to be rivalling West Ham in the race for Blackburn striker Brereton Diaz.

Moyes is a fan of the Chile international but he has now flown to South America for international duty, meaning he will even miss the next two Championship matches.

“I can’t see Ben Brereton leaving our club this window, hugely unlikely,” Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray said on the weekend. “I couldn’t say 100 per cent, but I can give you 99 per cent that he’s not leaving our football club this window.”

Declan Rice

Manchester United will consider a bid for Declan Rice in the summer.

Manchester Evening News report on a new central midfielder being the priority for the Red Devils, although there is no indication that West Ham will drop their asking price of well over £100million.

Former Hammers star Joe Cole has told Rice that only Manchester City will be worth leaving London Stadium for, stating: “I wouldn’t go [to Manchester United] if I was Declan Rice, no. I think you run the risk of going there and still not winning trophies.

“I think if Man City were on the table, you’d go there because in recent years it guarantees you trophies and I think Declan would want that.”

Nat Phillips

Wantaway Liverpool defender Phillips remains on the Hammers’ wish list for a January switch, as reported by Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser.

PSV Eindhoven, Burnley, Watford and Newcastle have also been named as interested in the centre-back.
