West Ham sign Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea for rest of season

Done deal: Axel Disasi - (London Standard)

West Ham confirmed the arrival of Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the season.

The Blues were looking for a permanent exit for Disasi, who cost £38million in 2023 and has this season been frozen out of the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge.

Other clubs had shown an interest in the Frenchman throughout the January window, but a final decision on joining West Ham was believed to be down to the player.

Disasi, who still has three and a half years to run on his contract, will now look to help the Hammers fight against relegation.

Standard Sport understands the Irons have paid a £1.8m loan fee for the 27-year-old.

West Ham have been in the market for a centre-back all window after Igor Julio was recalled by Brighton last week.

The Brazilian made just one league start for the east London club and Nuno Espirito Santo has been keen to bring in another loan signing in his place.

Disasi becomes Nuno Espirito Santo’s fifth signing of the winter transfer window, following the two strikers signed at the beginning of the year - Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe from Lazio and Gil Vicente respectively - and Adama Traore and Keiber Lamadrid, two wingers, later on in January.

West Ham are 18th in the Premier League table, five points points off safety, and they have undergone a recent resurgence in their battle against the drop.

A 2-1 win over QPR in the FA Cup third round kicked off two consecutive victories, before a promising performance at Stamford Bridge ended in a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat against Chelsea after Enzo Fernandez’s stoppage-time winner.
