West Ham’s newest star given latest international call-up with Arsenal trio snubbed

West Ham United’s newest signing Lucas Paqueta will be once again linking up with the Brazil national team squad later this month.

Paqueta, who signed for the Hammers from Lyon last month for a fee that could reach to a club-record sum after add-ons, has been a regular for Brazil in recent years, winning 33 caps for his country since making his senior international debut in 2018.

The 25-year-old will look to add to his already impressive haul of international appearances later this month after being named in Tite’s squad for friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia in France, taking place on September 23 and September 27 respectively.

Of the 26-man squad named by Tite for the upcoming friendlies ahead of November’s 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, 11 of them, including Paqueta, currently ply their trade in the Premier League.

Manchester United summer signings Antony and Casemiro are both in the squad, as is Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva and Newcastle United star and close friend of Paqueta’s Bruno Guimaraes.

Three Premier League-based Brazilians who would have hoped for selection are Arsenal trio Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes. However, despite all impressing so far this season and the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League after six matches, all three men were left out of Brazil’s latest squad, but Paqueta did make the cut.

Brazil’s 26-man squad to face Ghana and Tunisia this month:

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson (Manchester City) and Weverton (Palmeiras)

Defenders: Thiago Silva (Chelsea), Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain), Danilo (Juventus), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Eder Militao (Real Madrid), Alex Telles (Sevilla), Bremer (Juventus), Ibanez (Roma)

Midfielders: Casemiro (Manchester United), Lucas Paqueta (West Ham United), Fabinho (Liverpool), Fred (Liverpool), Everton Ribeiro (Flamengo), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle United)

Forwards: Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Vinicius (Real Madrid), Antony (Manchester United), Raphinha (Barcelona), Matheus Cunha (Atletico Madrid), Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Pedro (Flamengo)
