West Ham’s net spend compared to Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United and PSG after £183m in transfers

West Ham United reportedly have the fifth highest net spend of clubs across the whole of Europe since the start of the 2018/19 season.

The Hammers spent big this season on nine senior signings, adding striker Danny Ings for £12million in January after acquiring eight new recruits in the summer window.

Reports from CIES Football Observatory claim that the Hammers have a net spend of minus €207million (-£183.1m) for this season and since the start of the 2018/19 season, have a net spend of -€435m (-£384.9m) in the past five seasons, the fifth highest in the whole of Europe.

That total over a five-year period is higher than any club outside of the Premier League by -€98m, with the highest spending side outside of the Premier League over five years being Juventus, who rank ninth overall.

West Ham’s total is fifth in Europe, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur having a higher net spend than them.

Almost half of their total net spend has come this season, with their next highest being around -£80.5m in the 2018/19 season, with the signings of Issa Diop, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson costing a combined total of £75.5m.

Here are the top 20 clubs, with West Ham’s spending eclipsing that of a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
