West Ham's Declan Rice transfer stance made clear amid Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United interest

TalkSPORT pundit Jim White has claimed that Manchester United made a bid for Declan Rice last summer worth £100million.

The West Ham United star has attracted many suitors since making his debut for the club back in 2017 and is expected to be the source of many bids at the end of the season with Arsenal, Chelsea, and United all rumoured to fight for his signature.

With Rice's contract expiring in 2024, David Moyes' side have an option to extend that further to 2025, White told talkSPORT that United bid £100million for Rice last summer, which the club rejected, and revealed how much it would cost for a club to purchase the Hammers skipper.

He said: “It is our understanding £120m, plus add-ons, would get him. We understand that Manchester United last summer bid £100m and didn’t get him. Chelsea, Arsenal and United are still in the frame. That’s what it would take £120m, plus add-ons.”

However, both former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan and ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown believe the England international is not worth over £100m.

Despite Chelsea signing Argentinian World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez for over £100m on transfer deadline day, Jordan pointed out that the fee was due to a release clause and that if the Hammers get as much for their captain, it will be because market forces dictate that.

"Well those transactions were triggered by release clauses that had established values in them. The value that Declan Rice has is in the beauty in the eye of the beholder and what Declan Rice is prepared to do if people don't meet that expectation that West Ham have," said Jordan.

"But the release clause situation with these other players has triggered the outcomes and in this situation, it will be market forces which dictate and I'm not in the camp that Declan Rice is worth £120m quid. He's worth £120m quid to West Ham because that's what West Ham would like to get."

Previously, Keown was asked if the Hammers would get £120m for their prized asset and the ex-England international said that he didn't think the east London outfit would get what they wanted.

"Let's see what happens," Keown replied. "I don't think so Jim. Although the way the prices are going right now who can really predict that."
