West Ham prepare Premier League meeting after 'disgraceful' Chelsea VAR outrage

West Ham United are seeking clarification from the Premier League over the decision to rule out Maxwel Cornet's injury time equaliser for the Hammers against Chelsea on Saturday. The Athletic reports that the club were already set to meet the Premier League, but intend to bring up the controversy during the discussions.

It comes after a heated end to a London derby that had a slow build-up to it. Thomas Tuchel's men failed to register a shot on target in the first half and the game was goalless at the halfway stage.

On the hour mark, there was a breakthrough as Michail Antonio was on hand to give the away side the lead in the tie. Substitute Ben Chilwell swung the tie in favour of the west London outfit though, first scoring to level the game before grabbing an assist for Kai Havertz late on to seemingly hand all three points to the home side.

The clash was far from done though, as the late drama continued with a Cornet strike to level the fixture once again in injury time. However, referee Andy Madley soon overturned the goal when checking the pitchside monitor on VAR, adjudging Jarrod Bowen to foul the onrushing Edouard Mendy in the build-up.

It was a decision that didn't match the views of many, with the likes of Alan Shearer labelling it "disgraceful" and claiming it was a "terrible day" for several clubs when it came to officiating. It was a sentiment shared by West Ham manager David Moyes, who went on a rant about it after the game.

"It is a scandalous decision, absolutely rotten from one of the supposedly elite referees," Moyes told Sky Sports. "It doesn't say much about whoever sent him over from VAR as well. It is an unbelievable decision against us."

With the Hammers set to meet the Premier League and seeking clarification over the process, it remains to be seen if there will be sweeping change when it comes to officiating.
