West Ham United are taking a leaf out of Tottenham Hotspur's book in their efforts to keep hold of England midfielder Declan Rice.
Rice, 23, has worn the captain's armband for the Hammers for much of the campaign as skipper Mark Noble nears the end of his career. Manchester United have long been linked with a move for the Euro 2020 star, as have Chelsea, but the asking price remains a potential sticking point with suggestions any buyer will need to break the transfer record for an English player..
Spurs managed to fend off interest in Harry Kane over the summer amid Manchester City's interest, with the north London side pricing out the reigning Premier League champions. And, as West Ham continue to push for European qualification, they are taking a similar approach.
"The first thing to say is that he is not for sale," West Ham manager David Moyes said before his team's Premier League meeting with Everton.
"But if you are interested, it will be north of that, because £100m was cheap last summer and £150m just now would be minimum - but he is not for sale."
Rice has played more than 150 Premier League games for the Hammers since making his debut as a teenager in 2017. He was also a starter in the final of the European Championships, with manager Gareth Southgate suggesting he can be a future captain for the Three Lions.
The current British transfer record currently sits at £100m. That's the sum Manchester City paid to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, and Moyes referenced Spurs' situation with Kane when providing an update on Rice's future.

"I look at what Tottenham did with Harry Kane, albeit it in a different way," Moyes continued. "They said, 'no, there is a price and if someone wants to pay the price, then we'd probably do it. If they don't then he's not going anywhere'. That's it, they have kept him.
"There will be times when players have got the power, but at the moment we have got Declan on the best part of a three-and-a-half-year contract - just like Tottenham have got Harry Kane on a contract and they control what happens."
While Manchester United are thought to be front-runners in the race for Rice, they're not the only ones in the mix. Chelsea remain in contention to bring back a player who was part of their academy as a teenager before making the move east.
United have also been linked with England captain Kane, who has 12 league goals for Spurs this season. They are thought to be keen on the 28-year-old regardless of whether former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Old Trafford, with Anthony Martial linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
