West Ham stance on Nuno Espirito Santo future revealed after Wolves humiliation

West Ham have no immediate plans to sack Nuno Espirito Santo despite their 3-0 defeat by Wolves on Saturday.

Standard Sport understands that while results must improve, West Ham do not currently plan to part company with Nuno just 15 games into his tenure.

The club are prepared to back Nuno in the January transfer window and are close to completing a move for Lazio forward Taty Castellanos after the arrival of Brazilian striker Pablo Felipe, who was on the bench against Wolves.

The Hammers were comprehensively beaten by Wolves, who sit 20th in the Premier League, as Rob Edwards’ side earned their first win of the season.

West Ham remain four points adrift of safety and are at home to 17th-place Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, with Nuno not thought to be in danger of dismissal even if his team lose that game.

Nuno, who failed to win any of his first four games in charge, looked to have turned around West Ham’s fortunes after recording back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Burnley.

However, they are winless since getting the better of relegation rivals Burnley at the start of November.

West Ham’s winless run stretched to nine games against Wolves, and Nuno, whose side failed to record a single shot on target at Molineux, apologised to supporters after the game and said he had never felt worse on a football pitch.

"I have to apologise to the fans. I have to apologise," he said. "We have to apologise to the fans, those that travelled today, it was embarrassing.

“There's not much I can say other than we are sorry. We are sorry, because what we showed today was not good enough.

"We needed much more from our players. The way we started and the way we performed was very poor. It was embarrassing because I don't recall one day that I felt so bad on a football pitch like today."
