West Ham United missed the chance to pick up their first points of the 2022/23 Premier League season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal in first half stoppage time was enough to separate the two sides at the City Ground on a day where both teams had a goal ruled out by VAR, Hammers captain Declan Rice saw his second half penalty saved, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma both hit the underside of the crossbar and Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma both had chances cleared off the line.
As David Moyes’ squad continue their quest for a first victory of the season in all competitions, here are some of the lesser spotted moments from the Hammers’ defeat to the Tricky Trees.

West Ham’s mistaken money throw
One of many big talking points was seeing Jesse Lingard make his home debut for Forest against former loan club West Ham, who made moves to sign the ex-Manchester United midfielder prior to his switch to Steve Cooper’s side.
Lingard, who is believed to be on a basic salary of £115,000-a-week funded further by add-ons, was the target of having money thrown at him by Hammers fans in the away end. However, he was not on corner-kick duties, with supporters instead throwing money at former Liverpool defender Neco Williams when he went to take a corner early on in the first half.
Whether it was mistaken identity, impatience, or both, it seemed rather bizarre that all that effort was gone to throwing fake £50 notes at a player who had absolutely no connection whatsoever with the Hammers.
Michail Antonio’s brilliant reception
One nice moment on a day that saw West Ham suffer a second straight defeat came midway through the second half when Moyes opted to take off striker Michail Antonio and replace him with £30.5million man Gianluca Scamacca.
Antonio spent just over a season at the City Ground between 2014 and 2015 and scored 19 times in 54 appearances in all competitions before leaving for West Ham seven years ago.
The six-time Jamaica international got a great reception from all corners of the ground and got a hero's welcome as he went off, which is pretty impressive considering he spent just over a year with the East Midlands club.
Prior to the game, Antonio had outlined his intentions to not celebrate had he scored against his former club, a sign of the respect he had for the side now managed by Steve Cooper.
Steve Cooper’s Sky fury
Forest boss Cooper was involved in a funny moment with the Sky Sports cameras in the closing stages of the match, with the cameraman and many Forest fans believing the game finished earlier than it actually did.
During the seven minutes of second-half stoppage time, referee Robert Jones blew his whistle to award the Hammers a free-kick. However, many of the home crowd, and the pitch-side cameraman thought Forest had secured their first win of the season.
As the camera got close up to Cooper on the pitch, the Forest boss waved him off while saying “we’re not finished, go away.” Minutes later, Forest’s win was confirmed, but the moment itself was amusing.
