Hammers boss David Moyes said after West Ham's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday that he did not know how the surgery had gone and the timescale for the 24-year-old's return, with the Scot adding that he was "awaiting clear information."
But now, reports in Italy suggest that Scamacca will not feature again for West Ham this season, with the striker facing a timescale of around two to three months before he can return to action.
A statement from the Policlinico Gemelli hospital in Rome, via Gazzetta Dello Sport, confirmed that the forward was successfully operated on in Rome following a right knee external meniscus tear.
The statement added that the operation lasted a few minutes, incorporating an arthroscopy of the knee, which highlighted the tear, with Scamacca now "progressing satisfactorily" post operation and facing a rehabilitation period of between two to three months for a full athletic recovery.
Scamacca has played 27 times in all competitions for West Ham since his summer switch from Italian side Genoa, scoring eight goals, which includes three strikes in the Premier League.
