West Ham complete £15m Emerson Palmieri deal after reviving talks

West Ham have completed a £15million deal to sign Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea.

The Italy international was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the Blues earlier in the summer having spent time on loan at Lyon last season.

The transfer will cost an initial £13m with the Hammers agreeing £2m in add-ons for Emerson, who featured in his country’s Euro 2020 triumph a year ago.

“I’m very happy to be here and to arrive here,” said Emerson, who will wear the No 33 shirt. “It’s a big challenge for me, it’s a big team, so I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready.

“Personally, since the first day I arrived here in England, I always saw the big clubs and I always watched the big games and I knew the history about West Ham. The history is so, so big for this team and so when I knew about the interest for sure I said ‘Yes, let’s go, I want to go there’ and I’m here now!

“I can’t wait to get started in a West Ham shirt.”

Early confidence in the deal was lost after West Ham initially failed to find a solution on the player’s personal terms, with Standard Sport reporting on demands of £95,000-a-week from Emerson.

But a breakthrough was found after the two parties returned to the negotiatins table, setting up David Moyes’ seventh signing of the summer.
