A boyfriend was caught illegally driving his partner's car after he threw a Greggs sandwich from the window - directly in front of a police officer.
Uninsured Jamie Ogg, who had also never passed a driving test, had taken his girlfriend's car without her consent when he was spotted throwing the food from the vehicle. A passing constable witnessed the 37-year-old's littering and watched as he went on to flout a red light, a court was told.
Ogg, who has a past conviction for driving someone's car without their permission, was subsequently pulled over and found to be travelling in the white BMW illegally. He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this week to plead guilty to taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Paul Clark, prosecuting, said Ogg, of Fenton Walk, in West Denton, was seen throwing the sandwich from the car as he travelled along the A167 Central Motorway, in Newcastle, on March 22 this year. He was then pulled over after he flouted a red light.
Mr Clark added: "The defendant has a past conviction for taking a vehicle without the owner's consent from 2018. This time, it was his girlfriend's car he'd taken. The defendant has never passed a driving test."
Michael Crowe, defending, said Ogg and his girlfriend had been out drinking the night before and she'd decided to leave her car near the pub. It was at around midday the following afternoon that Ogg was caught behind the wheel of the vehicle.
Mr Crowe continued: "He had concerns his girlfriend would still be over the limit in the morning, so he's taken a chance and gone to get the car. Because he's thrown part of a Greggs sandwich out his window and an officer observed that, she's caused his vehicle to stop.
"There's some suggestion he may have contravened a traffic signal but we would say there's no evidence of that. The officer stops him and, to his credit, he straightaway volunteered to the officer that he had taken the vehicle without the consent of his girlfriend and he had no licence or insurance."
Magistrates gave Ogg a nine-month community order and banned him from the roads for six months. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
