West Bridgford street food restaurant gets food hygiene rating of 0 and is 'closed'

An Indian street food restaurant in West Bridgford has been given a food hygiene rating of 0 and it's believed to be 'closed'. Tuk Tuk West Bridgford, based on Gordon Road, was inspected on March 2 and its Facebook page now says the venue is 'closed for refurbishment', although Nottinghamshire Live has been told the restaurant stopped trading since February 27.

Three areas are normally inspected by a food safety officer. These are hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety, all of which in this case were rated 'major improvement necessary'.

The Food Standards Agency report, which Nottinghamshire Live has seen, found a number of significant food hygiene and safety problems. Among them include 'single use open packs of takeaway food containers were being stored in the outside shed where rat activity was found', 'a cardboard box used for raw chicken fillets was being used as a lid on a box of ready to eat poppadums and 'mouldy food, namely two aubergines, were found in the fridge in the external shed'.

A number of structural problems were observed too. These included 'evidence of rodent activity namely rats noted in the outside shed. Rat droppings were found throughout the external shed, alongside rodent hair, and suspected footprints in dust on shelving.'

A number of potential pest entrances were found too. One of the recommendations issued by the food safety officer was: "I strongly recommend you set up a contract with a reputable pest control company that carries out regular preventative visits rather than relying on calling a contractor when you experience an issue."
