West Bridgford neighbourhood says road is 'bad' as police conduct speed checks

Residents have shared what they think of speeding in their neighbourhood after speed checks were conducted in West Bridgford. After reports from local residents regarding speeding vehicles, police officers from Rushcliffe Operation Reacher conducted the speed checks in the Compton Acres area on May 1.

In the area, locals told Nottinghamshire Live that people tend to speed on Compton Acres road, but on neighbouring road Rugby Road drivers are very sensible.

Local resident Sara Wright, who is 26, told Nottinghamshire Live that people usually do the wrong speed limit. She said: “It’s bad - it’s 30 but people think it’s 40.

“Sometimes crossing the road I take extra time just to wait. People come down quite fast. I definitely notice people going between 35 to 40.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they even put up cameras.”

John Whittingham, who was visiting the shopping precinct with his wife, said there’s no solution to speeding. Mr Whittingham said: “How do you know that it’s 30? Having lamp posts on the side of the road - it’s 30.

John’s wife, Mrs Whittingham, added: “Could have some speed humps down here - that's what’s down Ruddington Lane.”

Mr Whittingham continued: “There’s no solution - all winners and losers. When they said they were putting speed humps in Ruddington the bus drivers said they’d go another route because they can’t fit. Speeding causes accidents - they say on a Monday there are more accidents following the Formula 1 racing.”

During the speed check it’s reported that most vehicles checked were sticking to the posted 30MPH limit, with a few slightly over, these drivers were stopped and dealt with accordingly by the officers.

A local, who gave the name Justin, said that he was unaware of the speed checks and said on Rugby Road motorists tend to be good. He said: “I didn’t even know they did that. People don’t tend to speed in the area. People tend to be very sensible. There’s kids on bikes and playing. I didn’t even know.”

A local resident on Rugby Road who wished to remain anonymous told Nottinghamshire Live: ”It’s hard to keep in check on cars' speed. People probably do speed. It’s a normal road but with elements of speed. Here more up to the roundabout people do start to slow down.”

Rushcliffe South Police took to social media and said they have more traffic/speeding operations planned, so please ensure drivers adhere to the speed limits and check their vehicle is roadworthy before driving.
