KOLKATA: After imposing fines on a section of traders and shoppers for using banned plastic bags in several district towns across the state, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has turned the lens on Kolkata markets.
According to a WBPCB source, the pollution watch body has already collected Rs 8 lakh by imposing fine on errant traders and shoppers in several north and south Bengal towns since July 1. A small portion of the fine was also collected from Kolkata and its outskirts. Of this amount collected as fine, Rs 6 lakh has come from the traders while the rest was collected from the shoppers.
