The West Bengal police said the claims made by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari about a person standing beside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a photograph as ‘fake’
Mr. Adhikari had on Friday tweeted a photograph of Mamata Banerjee at Rampurhat circled out a man, identifying him as Tulu Mondal describing him “infamous for operating illegal stone & sand quarries”. “The fact that he’s standing in close proximity to the CM, that too on an important visit after the #BirbhumMassacre, without being part of the administration reveals a lot,” the BJP leader further wrote.
The West Bengal Police, not only refuted Mr. Adhikari’s claims but added that the “allegations have been done with mischievous intentions to malign and defame”.
“The person (encircled in red) in is ASI Subrata Batabyal, who is posted at the Directorate of Security and is a part of the Close Proximity Team of Mamata Banerjee,” West Bengal Police said on Twitter. It is unfortunate that social media platform has been used for spreading canard,” the State police added. Earlier the BJP leader had tweeted photographs of Trinamool leader Bhadu Sheikh and Anarul Hossain, the leaders whose names have surfaced in the violence at Bogtui, where eight persons were burnt to death on March 21.
“Kindly look at the disproportionate & exorbitant enhancement in the lifestyle of Panchayat level TMC leaders. This exclusive development model is available only for TMC leaders under the guardianship of @MamataOfficial. Rest of Bengal can fend for themselves.,” Mr. Adhikari had tweeted.
