KOLKATA: The health department will form district oxygen committees to take stock of the oxygen situation in the state. There will also be panels at medical colleges that will report to Swasthya Bhavan. A health department directive has asked the CMOHs to set up the committees and submit a report by the 10th of every month.
The government is apprehensive of any crisis of oxygen and to pre-empt any eventuality, it wants all data related to oxygen be regularly updated on the portal. After the second wave, the state had improved the infrastructure for oxygen supply and set up 27 liquid medical oxygen (LMO) plants. The state had also set up 73 pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generating plants.
The district committee will keep track of daily oxygen delivery and consumption patterns and conduct do an oxygen audit. ADM (health) will act as the nodal officer in districts.
Health officials want all data related to oxygen delivery systems - like LMO, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, cylinders - collated on the oxygen management portal and oxy-care portals controlled by the West Bengal Medical Supply Corporation (WBMSCL). WBMSCL will be appointing a nodal officer to coordinate with the Centre and other agencies for proper supply of oxygen. Moreover, in case of any crisis, the state nodal officer will have to arrange oxygen accordingly to tide over the situation, for which there will be regular review meetings.
