West Bengal: Newly wed dies, husband held

KOLKATA: A 26-year-old woman was found dead in a pool of blood on the premises of a five-storey apartment complex in Baguiati on Friday night. Police suspect Titas Nandy fell from the terrace. Her husband Kaustav Sarkar was arrested on Saturday after her family members alleged he had pushed her off during an altercation over an alleged pregnancy.

An FIR was lodged with Nagerbazar police station against Sarkar, following a murder complaint.

According to local sources, Nandy was in a relationship with Sarkar, a doctor in the KMC health department, for over six months, after which, they had a registry marriage a month ago.

"Later, the relationship turned sour and they used to quarrel over her pregnancy since Sarkar claimed he wasn't the father," said Subhankar Das, a neighbour.

On Friday, neighbours heard a noise at 10.30pm and found Nandy lying outside. She was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and declared brought dead. "A murder case has been started. The accused was produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for four days," an officer said.
