West Bengal: Made-in-Howrah Tricolours to fly high across India on 75th Independence Day

HOWRAH: As the country gets ready to celebrate its 75th Independence Day next week, the occasion has made business brisk for National Flag-maker Raju Haldar, 46, whose family has been churning out millions of Tricolours since 1947 from their home at Unsani in Howrah.

It was Raju's father Nurjamat who had started stitching flags for a living and soon turned into a big supplier to Kolkata and several other states. Raju, who had been initiated into the job by his father, took over the reins of the business after his death and is now one of the biggest suppliers of National Flag to Kolkata and several other north Indian cities.
