MIDNAPORE : Forest officials struggling to rescue a sub-adult elephant stuck in an empty well for hours since early Monday had a “Eureka moment” when they applied Archimedes principle and filled the pit with water to allow the young jumbo crawl out of it.
The rescue operation took place at Musna village in Salboni block’s Pirakata range of Midnapore Division and a video of the operation is all over social media now. “The rescue operation was successful using the Archimedes principle of buoyancy. We managed to rescue it by 4am and found it to be healthy. Our officials safely guided it back to the nearest forest area,” said Midnapore DFO Sandeep Berwal.
