KOLKATA: Peace remained a constant theme in the Eid al-Adha prayers on Sunday. Thousands offered prayers in various parts of the state with one of the biggest congregations being held on Red Road in the morning.
Nakhoda Mosque Imam Shafique Qasmi said, “I appeal to all to help peace prevail. Peace and harmony has to be protected in the country.”
“We want peace. I asked everyone to come forward and stop any kind of anarchy. Peace has to be present for all and the government has to look into this aspect so that none can take law and order into their own hands. Those creating anarchy need to be punished. Anarchy cannot be allowed in the country. The rule of the law should prevail and, for that, we must do whatever is needed. Otherwise the country will suffer. The government must keep a close vigil,” he said.
Bengal Imams Association president Mohammad Yahya said, “Let peace prevail among all of us and let there be happiness.”
At the Park Circus Maidan prayers, too, the sermon was on peace and maintaining communal harmony.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Sunday wished the people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and prayed for the prosperity of everyone. The CM tweeted: “Greetings to all on the occasion of Eid-al-Azha! Eid Mubarak.”
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “May this festival inspire us all to work towards nurturing the spirit of well-being and prosperity for the good of humankind.”
BSF troops along the South Bengal Frontier on Sunday exchanged sweets with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Petrapole and all along the border outposts.
