KOLKATA: The state government has declared a holiday on August 11 - Thursday - on account of the Rakhi Bandhan festival in Bengal. All state government offices and educational institutes will remain closed.
The state government plans to celebrate the day in a grand manner, for which the sports and youth affairs department will be holding rakhi distribution camps in different places.
Last year, instead of handing out rakhis, the state government distributed masks. However, as the circumstances have changed this year, rakhis will again replace masks, an official said.
Collegium of AHM secretary Saudipta Das said, "There was a confusion over declaring holiday for the festival of Raksha Bandhan because there was no government circular earlier. Some schools were shut, some were open, depending on the authorities. This circular will clear such confusions."
