KOLKATA: Colleges and universities are gearing up for the next phase of admissions to undergraduate courses after the applications phase drew to a close. Colleges will be publishing a comprehensive general merit list for all subjects in the next few days, after which, applicants will get a window to report discrepancies, if any. Colleges will then publish subject-wise merit lists and those who make it on those lists can start taking admission.
Most colleges are likely to publish their first comprehensive list by early next week.
At Scottish Church College, the first provisional merit list will be published after 3pm on August 8. "Applicants will be able to submit grievances, if any, by 2pm on August 9. The first final merit list will be published on August 10, and admissions will begin from August 11," said an official of Scottish Church College.
Presidency University will publish the first provisional general merit list on August 12, and online reporting will be between August 13 and 16.
At Asutosh College, the online reporting will be on August 8 and August 9. "The rank range will be uploaded on the website before that. After online reporting, the final merit list will be prepared and published on August 11," said an official of the college.
Maulana Azad College published the provisional merit list on August 6, and applicants will get a day to submit their grievances pertaining to marks and ranks on the provisional list. "The revised merit list will be out on August 9," said an official.
St Xavier's College will publish the first selection list on August 23, and online admissions for the selected candidates from the first list will be on August 24, 25 and 26.
Colleges and universities started accepting applications for undergraduate courses on July 18. The last date for applying was August 5.
"Now the second and crucial phase of the admission process will begin, with colleges and universities publishing provisional merit lists. Applicants will be able to point out errors pertaining to ranks and percentages. It will be followed by the final merit list," said an official of a college.
Lady Brabourne College will publish a subject-wise comprehensive merit list on August 9, and will publish the final merit lists on August 11.
Though the number of applications this year has dipped by almost 30%-40%, The number of forms received by most colleges is still 20-30 times the intake capacity. The competition to bag a UG seat in top colleges and universities, like Xavier's, Presidency, JU, Lady Brabourne, Goenka and Bethune, is going to be tough, felt principals.
English, history, mass communication, BBA, commerce, zoology, physics, sociology, chemistry and economics have received the maximum applications in frontline colleges.
