A West Belfast trampolining centre is to be replaced by an Iceland store at the Westwood Shopping Centre.
The popular Airtastic unit at Kennedy Way in Andersonstown has been transferred to the newly opened Airtastic Entertainment Centre in Newtownabbey.
At Belfast City Council’s recent meeting of its Planning Committee, elected members agreed the change of use of units E to F at the Westwood Shopping Centre from an indoor trampoline park to Class A1 retail, as well as minor elevational changes associated with the change of use. The approval is subject to air quality commitments.

The council planning report states: “The proposal relates to a named operator Iceland, who are already operating from other locations within Belfast. It should be noted however, that any planning permission cannot be linked to an operator, rather the scale and nature of retailing can only be linked to the site.
“Thus, if permission was granted, any operator could trade from the retail unit subject to compliance with any conditions deemed appropriate.” No statutory consultees had any objections to the application and no objections were received by the council from the public.
Airtastic said of the transfer: “The Newtownabbey centre is much bigger and has a lot more to offer – not only a massive inflata park but other amazing activities fit for all ages such as Bowling, Mini Golf, Soft Play, Amusements and NY Kitchen.” Airtastic also has centres in Bangor and Craigavon.
A council officer told the Planning Committee: “There are minimal elevational changes, and these are in keeping with the use and character of the shopping centre. Environmental officers have no objections in terms of noise and disturbance, and the proposal is unlikely to have any significant impact given the location and the lack of any sensitive sectors close to the development.”
