Wesley Fofana set for scan as Chelsea suffer injury scare in friendly win over Brentford

Wesley Fofana is set to have a scan after he came off injured in Chelsea’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford.

The 22-year-old last played for the Blues at the start of October, when he scored his first goal for the club against AC Milan in the Champions League but was then forced off in the first-half.

That knee injury kept Fofana out until the break for the World Cup, but he has been stepping up his recovery in recent weeks and joined up with the Chelsea squad in Abu Dhabi, though did not feature in the friendly defeat to Aston Villa.

However, there is now concern after he was brought off against Brentford at Cobham, with the severity of the injury not yet known.

More will be known in the coming days, with Graham Potter giving a press conference on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth on December 27.

The Blues beat Brentford 5-1 on Tuesday in a match that was played over three periods of 45 minutes each, with Kai Havertz scoring in a hat-trick for Potter’s side.

A mixture of academy players and those involved at the World Cup featured for Chelsea, though Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech have not yet joined up against after their exploits in Qatar.
