Elon Musk has issued a stark warning that the United States is '1,000% going to go bankrupt' unless artificial intelligence and robotics deliver a productivity boom large enough to outpace the country's spiralling debt burden.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief made the comments during a February 2026 episode of the Dwarkesh Podcast, as interest payments on the national debt were already closing in on $1 trillion (£736 billion) a year.
