It's not the return of the $1 menu, but Wendy's wants to make it very clear that it understands the fiscal pain many customers face right now. That's why the chain has maintained its 4 for $4 meal with a Junior Cheeseburger, while pushing most of its value offer into the $5 Biggie Bag deals.
The 4 for $4 literally offers four items, so it's a de facto take on a dollar menu, but now the chain wants to bring big deals into another part of its menu. That's why the chain has rolled out a $3 offer.
DON'T MISS: Burger King Matches a Key Wendy's Menu Offer
Wendy's (WEN) has been focusing on growing its breakfast business and value has been a key part of driving customers to check out the chain's morning meal.
"We continue to drive momentum in our U.S. breakfast business, which grew versus the third quarter, and peaked at over $3,000 per restaurant per week in Q4. This growth was driven by the continued success of our first major breakfast menu innovation, French toast sticks and our traffic-driving $3 croissant promotion," Wendy's CEO Todd Penegor said during his chain's fourth-quarter earnings call.
Now, the chain has brought back its $3 breakfast offer and it's rolling it out nationwide.
Wendy's Adds a $3 Breakfast Meal Deal
Wendy's shared the following email with TheStreet.
"Calling all breakfast lovers -- Wendy’s $3 breakfast deal is BACK! For just $3, you can get a Wendy's Bacon or Sausage, Egg & Swiss Croissant AND a small order of Seasoned Potatoes. We’re talking fresh-cracked eggs, creamy Swiss cheese sauce and crispy bacon or savory sausage on a flaky croissant bun -- combined with our signature seasoned potatoes for just $3!"
The $3 breakfast deal will be available now through June 4 at participating locations.
And unlike many recent fast-food deals, the Wendy's breakfast offer isn't strictly digital. The chain is allowing people to order it online, through its app, at the counter or drive-through.
Wendy's also hinted that more deals are coming in the last line of the email it sent TheStreet and other media.
"Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for a biggie deal coming your way..." the chain shared.
McDonald's Tests Its Own $3 Breakfast Deal
McDonald's (MCD) has not been as value driven as its rivals, but it has been testing a breakfast offer that matches Wendy's $3 offer.
And while it's only in the test phase, McDonald's has launched a new 2 for $3 Mix and Match Deal at select locations across the country, Fast Food Post reported.
- Sausage Biscuit: A sizzling hot sausage served on a warm buttermilk biscuit that’s topped with real butter and baked to perfection.
- Sausage McMuffin: A savory hot sausage with melty American cheese served on a warm, freshly toasted English muffin.
- Sausage Burrito: A fluffy scrambled egg paired with pork sausage, melty cheese, green chiles, and onion, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.
- Hash Browns: Shredded Potato hash brown patties prepared so they’re soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy and golden on the outside.
It's a little odd that McDonald's has chosen to only offer sausage-based options with this deal, but that could have something to do with the price of bacon relative to sausage.
