Welsh school pupils kept inside because of youths 'throwing stones and cans' at staff

A Welsh secondary school was forced to keep pupils inside after stones were reportedly thrown at staff. Pupils at Ysgol y Creuddyn near Penrhyn Bay in Conwy were kept inside during lunch break on Tuesday after youths from another secondary school allegedly threw stones and cans at staff.

North Wales Live reports that North Wales Police received a call at around 12.06pm on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a call at 12.06pm today reporting a group of youths throwing stones and cans and being verbally abusive to staff.

"Officers attended but the youths, who were not pupils at the school, had left the area. However, our enquiries into this incident are currently ongoing." Parents of children at the school received an email informing them the group had threatened staff.

According to North Wales Live, the email read: "A message to make you aware that we had to make the decision to not allow learners out on the school field during lunchtime today. We made this decision as a precaution due to a group of learners from other secondary schools from the area (who) had made an attempt to come onto school grounds before lunchtime and had shown challenging and threatening behaviour towards members of staff at Ysgol y Creuddyn. We were also aware that this group of young people had been involved in an incident yesterday afternoon and that the police are involved.”

In the email Ysgol y Creuddyn also said that the youths had been reported to the school they attended. "We have made the police aware of today's incidents as well as the schools of those individuals. The safety of our learners and staff is our utmost priority. For that, this decision had to be made today to ensure that our learners stayed in in the school building under staff supervision."

The email added: "The mature behaviour and attitude of our children and young people must be commended in their willing cooperation as we assessed and dealt with this possible risk. I would like to stress, in closing, that everyone is fine and safe at school and that lessons will continue as normal this afternoon." You can read more of the latest breaking news from Wales here.
