Fire services have returned to the scene of a wildfire at a Welsh mountain. Multiple fire crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been tackling the wildfire on Rhigos Mountain in Hirwaun just days after it first caught ablaze.
Pictures taken by the mountain on Tuesday night showed thick smoke coming from the hillside hours after the fire service confirmed it had returned to the scene having first received reports of a wildfire at the site on Friday.
It comes after fire crews tackled a number of wildfires in the Valleys last weekend. On Saturday morning the fire service confirmed that the fire in forestry on Rhigos mountain had spread overnight and parts of the Skyline Mountain Bike Trail in the area had had to be closed as a precaution. A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said on Tuesday afternoon: "At approximately 5.59pm on Friday, June 9, we received reports of a wildfire on Rhigos mountain, Hirwaun. Multiple crews have been in attendance alongside emergency service colleagues. Specialist equipment including fire beaters and a helicopter have been utilised.
"Firefighters created fire breaks to help manage and prevent the fire from spreading further. The fire reignited on Tuesday, June 13, and crews have returned to the scene. The incident is ongoing."
