Haiti Couleurs victorious in Welsh Grand National: racing from Chepstow and Kempton – as it happened

All hail Couleurs!

Well that turned out to be a classy day’s racing. Mossy Fen Road started the afternoon off with a superlative round of jumping at Chepstow while horses such as Maestro Conti and Thistle Ask enhanced their reputations with classy victories. The run of Marine National, finishing a close second to Solness after a juddering mistake at Leopardstown, is well worth noting too. However, the Welsh National victory of Haiti Couleurs was the undoubted highlight and the talk of Cheltenham Gold Cup ambitions may not be too far off the mark given that the last horse to win the race under such a big weight burden was Native River who was subsequently third in that season’s Gold Cup before going on to win the Blue Riband of National Hunt racing the year after. Greg Wood’s report from Chepstow will be up shortly. Farewell from me and see you here next for the Cheltenham Festival!
