Welsh bar bans Russian food and drink in solidarity with Ukraine

A bar and diner in Wales has announced it will not be selling any Russian products in an attempt to show their solidarity with Ukraine.

This comes as the UK Government announced sanctions against Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine, including sanctions against the country's central bank and the assets of individuals. Over the weekend, the people of Wales came together to show their support for the people of Ukraine. Protests were held in towns and cities such as Wrexham, Cardiff and Swansea. On Sunday, the FAW announced that Wales wouldn't play any international fixtures against Russia in the "foreseeable future".

In Caernarfon, the Copa Bar & Diner said in a statement that they would stop selling all Russian produce but added they would continue to sell the vodka brand, Smirnoff. In a post that was published on their Facebook page, they said: "We've looked at any produce we sell in case its produced in Russia. The obvious one was vodka and particularly Smirnoff. To show support for the people of Ukraine we have stopped selling Russian goods. One item mistakenly thought to be Russian is Smirnoff. We can confirm that this is made by a British company Diageo, and manufactured in many countries but not Russia."
