Australian Amanda-Jade Wellington has added another scalp to her league-leading tally of wickets in The Women's Hundred while helping the unbeaten Southern Brave to another comfortable victory.
Another fine demonstration of Wellington's leg-spin included the key wicket of Barbadian star Hayley Matthews as the Brave made it four wins from four with a 14-run victory over Welsh Fire in Cardiff on Monday.
The extravagantly gifted Wellington, who's the leading wicket taker in the competition with eight scalps, took 1-21 off her full complement of 20 balls as she helped restrict the Fire, as they tried to chase down the Brave's 8-122.
She struck just when the dangerous Matthews had moved on to a run-a-ball 20, tossing one up to tempt the West Indian into flashing sharply to slip where Georgia Adams took a sharp catch.
Six balls later, the Brave's other key Aussie Tahlia McGrath then nipped one back to bowl Fran Wilson, the allrounder ending with a valuable 1-10 off her 10 balls.
For the Fire, another Australian international Annabel Sutherland had briefly threatened to get the home side back in the picture with one big six in her 26-ball 22 but she was caught behind off the experienced England star Anya Shrubsole when trying to push the score along.
The canny 30-year-old Shrubsole ended up with 3-20 off her 19 balls.
Sutherland's Aussie teammate Nicola Carey didn't last long in the chase, getting bowled by Lauren Bell for two off just four balls.
Player of the match was Sophia Dunkley who scored a 43-ball 49 to anchor the Brave's innings but was denied her half-century when trapped lbw by Sydneysider Carey, who ended with 1-18 off her 15 balls.
