Temperatures across the UK will continue to remain at near-freezing this weekend, with a yellow weather warning covering some parts of the country, including Greater Manchester.
The warning for ice will cover parts of the north west of England as well as some parts of Wales until 10.30am today (Saturday, December 17). Another warning will be in effect on Sunday (December 18) from 7am until 9pm.
Meanwhile, an additional warning covering parts of south Manchester and Trafford for ice will be in effect between 3am and 2pm. The Met Office warns that, while the warning is in effect, there will likely be icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the chances of accidents and injuries as well as travel disruptions.

The Met Office warned: "Bands of showery rain are expected to run inland tonight, turning to sleet and snow over some of the higher ground. Surfaces are very cold at present, posing the possibility of ice in some areas, the likelihood of this perhaps increased in places by 'wash-off' of road grit or salt. Above 200 to 300 metres elevation, some snowfall is likely, with a few cm over some trans-Pennine routes."

Wintry showers have been predicted for most of Saturday, with a 90 per cent chance of precipitation in Manchester throughout most of the morning and late afternoon. While temperatures will be slightly warmer than they have been throughout the previous week - peaking at 4C - it will still feel as low as -2C at certain points throughout the day.
The Met Office stated that the North West today will see "Wintry showers at times during today, these falling mostly as rain at lower levels, but sleet and snow at times over higher ground". It adds: "Often cloudy but occasional sunny intervals are possible. Breezier and somewhat less cold than of late. Maximum temperature 5C.
"Scattered showers at first this evening, these clearing north overnight as skies turn clearer from the south. Turning frosty, especially inland with a risk of ice. Minimum temperature -4C."
Sunday will similarly be cold with temperatures fluctuating between 1C and 4C throughout most of the morning and afternoon. However, the end of the cold snap may be signalled by temperatures suddenly shooting up to 8C by the late evening.
For Sunday, the Met Office said: "Patchy rain, sleet and hill snow at times during the morning, this possibly heavier early afternoon, giving locally icy conditions and snow accumulations on hills. Turning windy but becoming milder. Maximum temperature 5C."
By Monday, the Met Office predicts temperatures to increase even further to as high as 13C with light showers and a chance of some sunny intervals throughout Greater Manchester. It indicates the end of the cold snap the country has been experiencing over the past week or so which was brought on by arctic winds from the north.
