A desperate Scots gran has been forced to remove her eight-year-old granddaughter from school after she was allegedly subject to vile racist slurs.

May McWilliams is desperately fighting to get Rio Brown into a different school after she reported being called ‘monkey girl’ and ‘chocolate girl’ by youngsters at Elderbank Primary in Irvine.

The eight-year-old, who lives with her gran after her mum sadly died in 2019, also told her granny she was slapped and kicked by other children before May formally withdrew her from her p3 class.

A married doctor who raped a student nurse after contacting her through a dating site was jailed on Wednesday for four years.

Dr Manesh Gill, 39, carried out the sex attack on the victim after luring her to a hotel bedroom in Stirling on December 8 in 2018.

A judge told Gill that the woman had described "a distressing and frightening encounter" which lasted for a couple of hours.

Dad-of-two dies after crashing into headstone on quad bike

Tributes have been paid to a dad-of-two who died after crashing his quad bike into a headstone at a Glasgow graveyard.

The 36-year-old, named locally as Tam Kane, sustained serious injuries after the incident at Lambhill Cemetery on Tresta Road, Glasgow, at around 6am last weekend.

Tam was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but tragically died a short time later.

A Scots woman has been left traumatised after an out-of-control Akita threw her dog around like a rag doll, ripping his neck open in a violent attack.

Karen Waddington was out with her Staffordshire bull terrier Buster in Hawick, Scottish Borders, last Tuesday when the incident happened.

The 47-year-old said the large white Akita came running around the corner and instantly targeted her 12-year-old pooch.

DWP confirms date 8m households will receive first part of £650 cost of living payment next month

More than eight million households across the UK will receive a cash payment from July to ease the rising cost of living pressures, as the Work and Pensions Secretary Thérèse Coffey sets out detailed plans today.

The first instalment of the £650 for qualifying low income households in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, will land in bank accounts from July 14, continuing to the end of the month.

The move will see households initially £326 better off as the UK Government delivers significant interventions to support groups who are most vulnerable to rising inflation and soaring energy bills - in total, millions of households will receive at least £1,200 this year to help with the cost of living.
