Polio spreads in Britain for first time in decades as national incident declared
A national incident has been declared after polio has spread in Britain for the first time in decades.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has detected the poliovirus in London sewage works multiple times recently.
As a result, the agency has called on families to ensure that their children have been fully vaccinated, the Mirror reports.
Oral vaccines against polio offered abroad contain a form of the virus meaning it has been weakened in a lab so it can't cause disease.
This form of the virus remains in faeces and is therefore sometimes picked up in routine sewage testing done in Glasgow and London.
Scotland's schools named best and worst for performance in 2022 league table
Scotland’s top performing secondary state schools have been named in the latest league table.
The Times Scotland's 2022 High School League Table calculates a percentage of the number of pupils that achieved the Scottish Government's so-called 'gold standard' of five Highers in 2021.
And it was Jordanhill School in Glasgow that was named the best performing school for a sixth year in a row - with 91 per cent of pupils hitting the gold standard.
Bearsden Academy, East Dunbartonshire, and St Ninian’s High School, East Renfrewshire, came second and third respectively.
American couple tying the knot in Scotland gifted wedding dress and kilt after airline loses luggage
An American couple who travelled to Skye for their dream wedding ended up having to wear clothes donated by kind Scots after the airline lost their luggage.
Amanda and Paul Riesel flew over 4,000 mile from Orlando, Florida, to the UK on Monday, June 20, only to find out their luggage was missing.
The couple were left devastated after realising their wedding dress and suit were still in the US when they were due to tie the knot on Skye in the Highlands yesterday.
Amanda, 40, and Paul, 37, had spent over £12,000 on the trip which they had been planning for over two years.
They were ready to call the whole wedding off until Amanda's photographer, Rosie Woodhouse, appealed to locals to help the couple out - with just hours to spare.
In just a few hours, dinner lady Amanda had been offered a selection of eight wedding dresses in her size, and 37-year-old Paul was given a kilt.
Scots girl, 15, sexually assaulted in sickening daylight attack as cops hunt man
A 15-year-old girl has been left 'very shaken' after she was sexually assaulted at a secluded footpath in West Lothian.
The shocking incident took place at around 8.15am on the Uphall route on Tuesday June 21.
Officers say the girl was walking along the footpath between Middleton Avenue and Loaninghill Road when she was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately.
The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing a face mask, a hooded top, dark trousers and was carrying a multi-coloured rucksack.
Pair seen digging up historical site after searching with metal detectors
A man and woman seen illegally digging at a historical site in Aberdeenshire are wanted for questioning by police.
The incident happened at the Historic Environment Scotland site at Findlater Castle, Sandend - just outside of Banff.
Around 12.30pm on Monday, June 20, a male and a female were seen using a metal detector and then digging in an area that has been designated as protected by Historic Environment Scotland.
