Weather expert’s one bit of advice for St Patrick’s Day parades as Met Eireann forecast surprising change

Hundreds of thousands of people are set to enjoy the return of St Patrick’s Day parades across Ireland.

And luckily, the weather is set to stay mainly dry with double-digit temperatures in many areas.

However, one weather expert has given his advice for anyone planning to attend parades outdoors.

Alan O’Reilly warned the public on his Carlow Weather Twitter account to not be fooled by the blue skies, because it will be breezy - “so bring the coats for the parades”.

“There will be a damp start on Thursday but sunny spells developing for the afternoon and just passing showers. It will be breezy though so bring the coats for the parades,” he said.

It comes as Met Eireann has forecast a surprising weather change for the country, saying we can enjoy a long spell of “rather pleasant, dry and sunny weather”.

It will come as a nice change from the usual unsettled conditions and stormy weather Ireland has experienced at times so far this year.

Giving its official St Patrick’s Day forecast, Met Eireann wrote on its website: “Mild and breezy this St Patrick's Day with a mix of cloud, sunny spells and some showers.

“Winds easing through the afternoon with mainly dry and sunny weather extending from the west. Afternoon temperatures of 9C to 14C, warmest in the southeast.

“Staying dry and calm through the evening. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop to between -2C to 3C tonight with some frost and fog patches developing.

“Winds will be light variable or southeasterly, freshening along Atlantic coasts later.”

Looking ahead to Friday’s extra bank holiday, the national forecaster continued: “Dry with good sunny spells for Friday but a little cloud will develop in the afternoon for southern areas and along western coastal counties too.

“It will be noticeably milder with highest temperatures of 10C to 15C in a light to moderate southeast breeze, fresher near western and northern coasts.

“Staying dry with plenty of clear skies and a little milder overnight too with that southeast wind persisting. Lows of 3C to 6C expected overnight with the east of the country being the coolest.”

The good weather is set to continue over the weekend and into next week, with the total rainfall forecast for the next 10 days currently showing very little rainfall.
