Keith Long insists Bohemians won’t be ‘throwing money’ at players this summer as he looks to strengthen his misfiring squad.
The Gypsies ’ topsy turvy season continued on Monday night with a 3-0 defeat at Dublin rivals St Pat’s.
And it saw them drop to seventh in the Premier Division standings after squandering the chance to record back-to-back wins for the first time this year.
Long has made no secret of the fact that he is desperate to sign some new players in the summer window.
And quizzed on how that is shaping up, the Bohs boss said: “We are progressing and we’ll see.
“We’ll try and get a player or two in but they have to be the right players and they have to be good value.
“There’s a lot of inflation in this league at the moment - a lot of players are getting paid good money.
“I’ve a responsibility to our club - it's a members' club - and we have to spend wisely to get good value and get good players in.
“We won't be throwing money at players who won't improve us.”
Long added: “There's not much between a lot of the teams but we can only look after ourselves.
“I’m disappointed with the consistency of our performances. We haven't been able to put wins on the board and that's disappointing.”
After going behind to a fifth minute goal at Richmond Park, Bohs had a number of first-half chances to get back on level terms and even surge ahead.
Saints goalkeeper Joseph Anang was in inspired form, but the Gypsies still lacked the clout to capitalise.
Long said: “When we were on the attack they looked like they could hurt us on the counter attack.
“But what’s more frustrating is that we didn't challenge or test them enough in the second-half and they dealt with us quite easily.”
