"We were children" says Fable creator who admits that the fact it ended well "is a miracle"

.

Fable creator Peter Molyneux recalls that Fable ending up as good as it was is testament to the team at Lionhead.

Molyneux spoke to Edge magazine (now republished in Playmakers), and said, "Dene [Carter] and I had been thinking about Fable for at least ten years before we started on it, and not necessarily in the most grounded of ways" he explained, "We were children, dreaming up a game about simulation, self-expression, magic, gothic horror and unintended consequences, who became young adults who didn't know enough to know what was possible "

He explains that with such lofty ambitions, "That it ended as well as it did is a miracle, and a testament to an incredibly talented team." Fable was a massive hit for Xbox at the time, with the game becoming a favorite of many who owned the original Xbox, as well as spawning two sequels that included the far superior Fable 2 and the "some people like it" Fable 3.

Fable – and Molyneux in general – is known for the somewhat overhyped features pre-release with the most iconic being the player planting an acorn that would grow into a tree as the player continued to play the game. But despite the falsehoods about some of its mechanics, it was and still is a nice reminder of the ambitious early years of fully 3D RPGs. There's a reason that – despite all the complaints that the series has had about it over years and a 16 year drought of entries – it's still one of Xbox's most beloved series'

Fable's reboot doesn't have morality-based character morphing and fans are divided: "It's what helped set Fable apart from other Middle Ages Western RPGs"
