Inflation has been affecting every aspect of our lives these days, even when it comes to breaks away.
Figures from the Central Statistics Office show price increases of between 10.5% and almost 17% for hotel accommodation in Ireland between the first four months of 2019 and January to April this year.
Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty even claimed it is €200 cheaper to fly to Rome to see Bruce Springsteen than travel within Ireland for his gig in the RDS Arena due to "rip off" Dublin hotel prices.

We took to Booking.com to see just how much it costs to stay in a hotel in Dublin every weekend in July and compare it to going abroad. The results were shocking.
Prices for a Friday check-in and Sunday check-out often ranged between €700 - €900. In some cases prices skyrocketed to well over €1,000.
One example described as a “small double room” in the city centre was an astonishing €768 for two nights in July.
Yet despite these shocking prices people are still booking stays away.
At one point the website stated “81% of places to stay are unavailable for your dates on our site” on our selected dates.
While later dates in July showed more options, prices stayed within the €700 - €900 range.
The price of hotels in Barcelona for the same dates in July offered a stark contrast.
Not only were there more choices of accommodation to choose from, often they came at half the price.
With prices often ranging between €370 - €500 it just maybe be more worth your while escaping to the sun than staying at home.
Many hotels are within walking distance to a beach so sun, sea and low fees might just be the cheaper move for Irish families this year.
Even accommodation in New York came in slightly cheaper than Dublin for the same dates.
The Big Apple is a place known for ridiculous rents for one room apartments, yet their hotel prices range between €500 - €700 for a weekend in July.
With many choices in various locations around the city and a few options even including breakfast it might be time to go stateside.
