Amid the cold snap over the last couple of weeks - which has made it hard to believe it's Spring in the city - we escaped to the Alchemist at St James Quarter to try the cocktails they have on offer for Margarita month and were totally blown away.
We also sampled the food menu while we were there, as cocktails on an empty stomach are never a good idea, and found a new top spot to enjoy a steak dinner for a reasonable price in the city centre.
The Alchemist has partnered up with Patron to concoct a twisted margarita menu that will add a little molecular magic to any tequila lover’s favourite tipple.

The Patron Margarita menu includes three limited edition cocktail serves.
First, we tried a Purple Haze - a kitsch serve of Patron Silver Tequila with lime, blueberry, fruit salad syrup, soda and silver shimmer served in a bong garnished with a red Szechuan leaf.
This was absolutely delicious and not overly sweet as you may expect with the tangy lime adding a welcome sharpness to the tropical rendition of the iconic margarita.
Served in a funky glass, it reminded me of having a cocktail for the first time on a summer holiday and gave the same blissful feeling.
Next, we tried the Hipflask Margarita, consisting of Patron Silver Tequila with Grand Marnier, apricot, lime sherbet, demerara and orange bitters served in an Alchemist branded hipflask.
There is no need to try and sneak this bougie piece of bar-wear home as you are allowed to keep the stylish silver hipflask the cocktail is served in.
Finally, we tried the Bloody Picante - my personal favourite. If you had to come up with your dream cocktail this would be for me - a hybrid of both a bloody Mary and a spicy margarita that works surprisingly well.
Perfect for after dinner, the Bloody Picante is made from Patron Silver Tequila, Red Wine, Sweet & Spicy Gochujang and served with a savoury Chilli Cheese Crisp.
This was absolutely delicious - but maybe not a preferred taste for everyone. The red wine gives the cocktail body, while you still get the classic punch from the tequila coming through that you would expect from a margarita.

Meanwhile the spice and tomato components blend perfectly with the other boozy ingredients making it a brilliant mix of two classics.
For the whole experience, you can opt for all three or try one next time you visit - but you'll have to be quick as the limited edition menu is only available until March 22.
You can find out more and book here.
