We tried the Edinburgh cafe that looks like the inside of a Barbie dreamhouse

It's hard to miss the newest addition to the St James Quarter, with it’s bright pink interior not one to go unnoticed.

Opening on December 9, EL&N chose Edinburgh’s new shopping hotspot for their latest cafe, with venues already popular in the likes of London and Dubai.

Known for their signature Barbie dreamhouse-like decor, the cafe is branded as an ‘Instagram paradise’, with displays and feature walls supposed to be the ideal spot for a fun and unique snap.

However, we were interested to see if the cafe’s food and drink actually tasted as good as it looks, or if the venue was all for show.

Heading down on a frosty December morning for brunch, we were instantly welcomed into the warmth, with the Christmas decorations, all pink of course, proving quite the spectacle.

From there we were sat down at one of the again, all pink tables, and given time to browse the menu before either ordering from the QR code or with staff.

It took us a while to decide what to order, as the menu is filled with some unique and interesting options, with their latte selection both unusual and endless.

Many of the lattes as we noticed actually don’t contain coffee, but other ingredients such as turmeric, condensed milk and even blue flower petals.

The food options also look incredible when you first glance at the menu, featuring everything from Turkish eggs to a ‘s’mores cookie dough pan.’

In the end, we opted for a red velvet latte, featuring beetroot powder, chocolate and whipped cream, and a lucky latte, which comes topped with cereal pieces.

Although not cheap, with the red velvet costing £6.90, both drinks were delicious, and were ideal for a special treat.

Then came our food, we opted for the eggs benedict and the eggs royale, both of which came topped with edible flowers. Almost looking too good to eat, it was clear to see why the venue is a picture paradise.

Tucking in, it was clear that the food really does live up to its impressive image, with both portions leaving us full and satisfied.

Due to our drinks coming with a lot of sweetness, we weren’t desperate to finish off with a dessert, however we couldn’t resist at least having a browse at the counter before heading out into the cold.

From indulgent cakes to freshly baked cakes, the counter faces out onto the street and is likely to entice those passing by for a quick takeaway.

Our total bill came to just under £40, which for two coffees and breakfast dishes isn’t exactly the most affordable. However, it’s clear that EL&N offers more than your classic cafe, and is the perfect spot for a special occasion, or if you’re in the mood to indulge.
