We tried Stranger Things inspired menu at a unique Edinburgh bar perfect for friendly meet-ups

After the first instalment of the fourth season of the hit Stranger Things series got realised in late May of this year, the fans were left excited and desperate for more.

Thankfully, it's not long until the second part of the season drops on Netflix on July 1, and now the lucky Edinburgh fans have a perfect place to gather and share their thoughts on the supernatural thriller saga.

The capital's unique bar that changes its whole concept - interior and drinks - every four months, The Cocktail Geeks, has now turned Upside Down as a shout-out to the popular TV drama.

Edinburgh Live's reporter Iuliia Vlasova went to check out the new menu and themed appearance of the independent bar, and here's what she thought of it.

Having been a Stranger Things fan since it first aired in July 2016, I couldn't miss the chance to be among the first to see the series-themed look of the Cocktail Geeks.

It was my first visit to the venue and won't be the last as it is now straight at the top of my list of go-to places for gatherings with friends or an occasional drink.

Sure thing, I'm not yet equipped with enough information to judge the bar's ability to transform when themes change - although the pictures suggest they are exceptional at that, too - but what I've seen was enough for me to make up my mind.

The venue itself certainly has a character with its rough brick arch ceiling and nearly a dungeon-style vibe, and yet benefits from enough light and air that one might often miss in a small bar.

With around six tables inside, the Cocktail Geeks create a secluded and private atmosphere, while several outdoor tables make a fabulous bonus during the warmer evenings.

I was also surprised to find out all the themed decorations - and the impressive Demogorgan hanging from the wall - the team made themselves, which is always a good sign of people being totally in love with what they do.

Bottom line? Places with a soul are always worth a visit, and this little gem tucked away just off the Royal Mile has a marvellous, quirky and outlandish soul you wouldn't want to miss.

Moving to the drinks. The variety of cocktails - priced at around £8.5 each - is great, and while some might want to play it safe with the timeless classics, the more adventurous visitors should go for their Upside Down versions - like a Dimension Hopper instead of a Grasshopper.

While I know I'll be planning another trip to try the bar's I-Scream floats, make sure to note down the place - it's an ideal spot for a summertime night out. And another thing - don't start the night with the Sunset over Hawkins, it's a powerful one.

Visit the Cocktail Geeks website to find out more and book a table.
