We stayed in Edinburgh's fanciest penthouse that is popular with celebrities

In recent years, we thought we'd seen all of the best viewpoints Edinburgh has to offer. Arthur's Seat, the castle, even the likes of Calton Hill have all been impressive.

However, as it turns out, this week we discovered the best view of the city is actually from a beautiful penthouse flat tucked away next to the Meadows.

Part of the Quartermile development, the three-floor property sits on top of one of the modern blocks of apartments built around the former Royal Infirmary.

Recently undergoing a stunning renovation, the penthouse is now available to book out as a holiday let, with guests getting full access to the roof terrace and facilities.

With the main entrance on the eighth floor, we were taken aback as soon as we came in, with two smaller bedrooms on the floor already boasting great views across the Quartermile development.

Heading up to the ninth floor, the minute you get up the stairs you arrive in the formal dining room, with an elegant high ceiling and table set up for hosting.

The kitchen is also fully stocked with all the utensils you might need, including a Nespresso coffee machine, which made the perfect brew to enjoy out on the terrace.

The lounge opens out onto the terrace, and although we were lucky enough to get the weather on our side, you would be more than happy watching the rain fall outside while cosying up on the huge couch and watching the gigantic plasma TV.

However, the sun was beaming when we arrived, so we headed out to the flat's private terrace, which comes complete with outdoor furniture that is ideal for lounging about on.

With the sun beginning to dip, we were keen to get the fire pit going to enjoy the last of the gorgeous Spring evening, with the views being just to die for.

Not only giving a clear look at the castle, the terrace also looks over the Meadows, over the Old Town, Marchmont and across to Arthur's Seat.

Even the penthouse itself is stunning to look at, with the glass structure sitting proudly and looking incredibly futuristic against the night sky.

After sipping a glass of fizz around the fire until it became dark, we headed in to sit back and relax on the couch, with the TV making us feel like we were at the cinema.

The master bathroom also has a jacuzzi bath, with beautiful features and even a small TV built into the wall.

However, the master bedroom boasts views just as good as the terrace, with the glass wall looking out over the city, which is breathtaking to see, especially when it gets dark.

The bedroom itself is as luxurious as the rest of the property, with a huge comfortable bed that pops out a TV at the switch of a button, as well as a full set of wardrobes and a vanity table.

Heading off to sleep, we actually kept the blinds open so we could wake up to the sun rising over the city, and it was definitely worth the early start.

With the sun beaming over Edinburgh, it was a pretty fantastic alarm clock, and we enjoyed the view there and back out on the terrace again with some breakfast.

Sadly, our stay was only one night, as we definitely would have happily moved in and stayed there forever.

A very unique stay, the penthouse isn't only popular with us, with some famous faces having already stayed, and a few more booked in this year.

Although a fleeting visit, the penthouse is something we'll never forget, and although not the cheapest place to spend the night, we will definitely be back.
