We speak to Mrs Potts about her famous Bristol chocolate house

Bristol's Mrs Potts Chocolate House is renowned across the West Country for being one of the best spots for desserts. Fans rave about the venue's 'rich cakes' and delicious cookies - and now the eatery has launched a special Mother's Day dessert tea.

We decided to catch up with the owners behind the popular eatery and find out what makes it so special. Located on Park Street, the business was born here in Bristol back in 2017, and has now expanded to Cardiff and Bath.

We spoke to joint-owner Amelia, who explained when her family first moved to our city from Australia, they couldn't find anywhere that sold desserts that was also a venue you could hang out with friends.

After her Mum, Jennifer Potts, and Dad also moved to the country the business was put into motion. Her mum works in the in the kitchen, while her dad hold the fort in front of the counter making coffees and hot chocolates.

She said: "Everything is made in-house, hot chocolate made by grinding down chocolate in a flaking machine. We make our own marshmallows for the drinks and all brownies and cakes are made from scratch in our bakery."

The venue is one of the businesses that is part of the Love Bristol Gift Card and Love Bristol Night Out Gift Card, which encourages people to shop local this Mother's Day.

Amelia says she enjoys being part of Bristol's hospitality industry, which is very 'creative'. She said “Bristol’s really open to trying new things and supporting independent businesses, so it was the perfect place for us to start our new idea.”

“We’re really lucky Bristol took us under their wing and appreciated what we’ve put out there and supported us so well.”
