We simulated Dundee United vs Rangers to get a score prediction with Tannadice eight-goal thriller

Rangers will host an in-form Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, as the Gers look to stay close to league leaders Celtic.

After coming from behind to lead 2-1 against Celtic in their last outing, a late Kyogo Furuhashi equaliser saw Rangers only claim a point against their rivals, keeping the gap between the two sides at nine. It could turn out to be a missed opportunity from Michael Beale's point of view, but the Light Blues must return to winning ways when they face Dundee United on Sunday.

The Terrors have won two and drawn one since returning to action in December, moving off the bottom of the league and into 11th. Rangers have won five of their seven meetings with Dundee United in the top flight since their promotion in 2020, with the most recent meeting earlier this season ending in a 2-1 win.

So, could Rangers continue their unbeaten run under the new managerial regime on Sunday? We used FIFA 23 to try and predict the score, and this is what happened.

Dundee United vs Rangers score predicted by simulation

To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the Rangers squad with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We expect that Rangers could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Barisic; Kamara, Jack; Fashion, Tillman, Kent; Colak

We predict that the Terrors could set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Birighitti; Smith, Edwards, McMann; Freeman, Levitt, Sibbald, Behich; Harkes, Middleton; Watt.

It was a nightmare start for Rangers as Dundee United took the lead six minutes in when Ian Harkes breezed past Ben Davies before finding the top corner. A goal down, the Gers started to find their feet, and after 15 minutes, Beale's side found themselves 2-1 up.

Malik Tillman managed to find the equaliser in scrappy fashion, with the midfielder poking home from close range after the hosts failed to clear a corner inside the box. It then took just three minutes for the Gers to take the lead, with Antonio Colak getting on the scoresheet on his return to the starting XI in place of Alfredo Morelos.

As United pushed out of defence, Ryan Kent won back possession deep in the host's half and found Colak unmarked in the area, leaving the striker to fire into the bottom corner from close range. After going ahead, Rangers controlled the game until the end of the half, and they managed to make it 3-1 in the 45th minute as Colak grabbed his second of the afternoon.

Glen Kamara surged forward with possession fantastically, turning defence into attack as he skipped past the home midfield with ease before sliding a pass into the feet of Colak. The striker opened up his body as if he was to aim for the far corner, but instead he fired a powerful effort past the 'keeper at the near post to put his side two goals ahead.

Rangers came out in the second half looking sluggish, and after 54 minutes, Harkes grabbed a second when he fired past Allan McGregor at his near post from a narrow-angle. All of a sudden, the hosts were on top, but the Light Blues responded again, with Ryan Jack reinstating the two-goal lead.

As the ball fell to Kamara on the edge of the box, he took aim at goal, but his effort was saved. Jack was the quickest to react when the 'keeper parried the effort back into the box, and the midfielder lifted the ball over the 'keeper to make it 4-2.

Rangers spent the final 15 minutes of the game pegged back in their own half, and after a period of constant pressure from the hosts, Beale's side conceded twice in the final few minutes of the game as the hosts made it 4-4. Ryan Edwards made it 4-3 in the 85th minute when he flicked a corner into the net at the near post, and in the 93rd minute, Tony Watt broke through on goal, rounding McGregor before tapping into an empty net to secure a share of the spoils in dramatic fashion.

FIFA 23 predicted score: Dundee United 4-4 Rangers

Here are the full-time match stats.

Ft stats from Dundee United 4-4 Rangers on FIFA 23 (EA SPORTS FIFA)

FIFA 23 predicts that Rangers could find it difficult against Dundee United on Sunday, letting a two-goal lead slip in the final eight minutes to draw 4-4. If Celtic were to win whilst Rangers draw this weekend, it would extend the gap between the sides to 11 points, with Beale's side unable to drop any points as long as their rivals keep winning.
